The World - Hard Truths Part I: Overpopulation

It is sobering to read in the Dom Post's editorial about how little we appreciate the cost of living in the West. How our lifestyle, so sought after by other nations, is simply not sustainable if population growth remains as it is.

Already the world is straining under the weight of human consumption, and yet none of us are willing to dramatically change our lifestyles. I admit, I'm simply not sure if I could make the shift in my personal lifestyle that easily.
Yet something needs to be done. My brother has a particularly dark view of the future. He doesn't believe there is enough to support humanity and the race's decline and self-destruction is not too far off. His only hope is that the collapse will not be until after he passes away.
What can we do? Limit the number of children we have? Force a number of nations to live in poverty and strife so our nations can continue living the luxury life?
I don't have the answers yet. Only concerns...

Actually... bollocks.

Take a look at Cuba's actual economic and agricultural structures. They're a good hard look at the future, Since the collapse of the soviet union, they've had a greatly reduced oil importage, and so have made the lifestyle adjustments that the rest of us will need to in a few years time. It's a change, but it's not the end of the world by any means.

Thanks for that Mash. :)

I'm sure that when the time comes, we will make the changes - just would be nice to think we could do it before things got worse.
